I met Janet in 1976, the year after I graduated high school, through her brother John. It was just after the death of our friend Jimmy Daniel. It was a very sad time but we became close, and Janet and I dated until the end of that year. Not long after they moved back to Fairport, New York. I believe her Dad worked for Kodak in Rochester.
I got in touch with her many years ago and learned she was sick with cancer. She talked about her hats, a reference to the effects of cancer treatments. I was surprised to find she lived until 2020 but you can find people mentioning her on cancer support web pages with many comments as to how sweet and helpful to them she was.

I hope you liked my poem for you Janet.

NancyElise Lennon (Weisbein) (1976)

My sister was a wonderful, caring, loving, giving person.  She had many friends and she loved her family of Jon, Jessica and Jimmy Stadt more than anything.  Well, except her grandgirls, twins, Marlie and Solstice Toner.

Janet was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1995 and was declared cancer free the same year.  In 2019, she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer.  She struggled to keep the ability to do her day to day life but had to stop her activities in spring of 2020.  She passed away on September 5, 2020 with her beloved husband holding her hand.

As I write this almost one year after her death, it still doesn't seem real.  Janet was a huge part of our family and she was my best friend.
