Curtis Woods Belknap, much beloved husband, Daddy, Grampy, son, brother, uncle and friend, went home Monday, June 11, 2012, surrounded by those who loved him most. He leaves a lifetime of memories to his wife, soul mate and best friend Rebecca, and to his children Riann and Christopher Havey, Virginia and Jamie Belknap, Curtis Belknap Jr. and Alkesta Maili, and Hannah Belknap. His beautiful granddaughters Bria and Emily Havey, Kate Matthews and Andie Belknap were the lights of his life. He was the much loved son of Doris Belknap and Bob and Susan Belknap, and the best big brother ever to Leanne Belknap, Rodger Belknap and Mark Plesant, and Kristen and Aaron Vickers.

If a man’s wealth is measured by the lives he touched, Curt was the richest of men. He spent his entire career in oil exploration, first with his own company Seismic Electronics. He joined CableX in 1981 and through many mergers and acquisitions (they changed names but Curt never left!) spent the next 31 years with the company now known as Sercel. He made friends in the industry that stayed with him to the day he died. He was a brilliant engineer and made invaluable contributions to his industry, including receiving a patent that bears his name.

As competent as he was at business, Curt’s greatest talent was in enjoying life to the fullest every day. He sailed. He flew remote control planes. He fished and hunted. He rediscovered golf in the last five years and brought as much passion and energy to the game as he did everything he undertook.

Much to Becky’s delight (usually) he loved to cook and grill. He brought his special brand of creativity to the kitchen and he seldom disappointed and often delighted his family and friends. Whether in his backyard, on camping trips or with his in-laws, Curt was the master of the smoked turkey and brisket and sausage, and especially chicken wings.

Curt will be dearly missed but the lives of everyone he knew and loved are richer for having known him. Just a few weeks before he died he told Becky we wanted to help a child through WorldVision, so we ask that in lieu of flowers you make a donation to the account set up in his name. The WorldVision website for donations in his memory can be accessed through the Send A Condolence tab below.

We ask that you join us on Thursday, June 14, at 2pm for a memorial service at Cy-Fair Christian Church, 9730 Grant Road, Houston, TX 77070. After the service we will celebrate Curt’s life at the home of his oldest daughter Riann Havey at 50 South Winsome Path Circle in The Woodlands.
