In Memory

John Robert Haupt - Class Of 1976

John Robert Haupt

September 17, 1958 - February 15, 2018

My dear and very much loved brother, John.  His days were cut short by the saddest thing I can think of.  But while he was on this earth, he was a beautiful person, loving, caring, fun, and full of life and a love for life and those of others.  I can recall a few times and places which are dear to my heart and his.  The Grand Canyon, Cabo, smoking cigars that he’d always bring when he visited, long talks about life and love long into the night.  Showing him how to work on cars when he bought his first of many Firebirds.  I don’t believe he ever had a cross word with anyone.

He loved life and he loved his family very much, including his son Robbie and our mother who will be resting beside him.  His recently acquired nickname “bull-horn” describes his love of life with his loud and boisterous voice and excitement when something good happened.  John loved the good Lord and had a relationship with Jesus.  I know that Jesus will look after him since he has been saved.  We will all miss you bro and will never forget you.  You are a testament of how life should be lived.  We all love you very much.  Rest in peace my dear bro.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the Schmidt Funeral Home Grand Parkway Chapel, in Katy, where funeral services will be held at high noon, with Chaplain Daniel Schramm officiating.  Interment in Memorial Oaks Cemetery, in Houston.  A reception will follow at Schmidt Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to The Salvation Army, 3949 Forest Park Ave, St. Louis, MO 63108, or Oath Inc., 27314 Piney Ranch Lane, Katy, Texas 77494, or to the American Diabetes Foundation, P.O. Box 15829, Arlington, Virginia 22215, www.diabetes.org

I was heartbroken when I learned of John's passing. I remember him vividly from Westchester because of his hair and his smile. The information posted on this website about his passing is incorrect. John was transferred by his employer from Austin to the Denver metro area in 2013. He looked me up, since  I have lived in Colorado since 1983, and we got together on numerous occassions. He had not changed a bit except his hair, which was non-existent. He was still hilarious, loved to have fun, constantly busy and most of all kind. After he had been in Colorado for a year, he bought a home in the foothills of Golden, Colorado. He slipped on the ice and hit his head. He was in intensive care for 10 days until he passed because of his brain injury. He died in Golden. His death was way too soon, sudden and tragic. I am sure many of you remember him. He will be truly missed.

In a few days it will be 3 years since John died. John story. We went to Red Rocks to see a Steely Dan concert. Naturally, I have seen a lot of concerts at Red Rocks and felt  I knew the location well. We were late and I thought we would have to literally hike in from one of the lower parking lots. John took the road that lead to the top and was reserved for the personnel running the concert. All the while I was asking him what in the world was he doing. Once there he replied, "Watch." He gets out of his red sports car and rearranges the orange traffic cones to make us a parking place. He gets back into the car and pulls into the parking space. He jumps out of the car and rearranges the cones again to make it look like his car was suppose to be there in the first. I laughed so hard and for so long I could barely walk. I was completely doubled over with laughter and tears were flowing out of my eyes. I thought he was hilariously funny and I am certain some of you guys thought he was hilarious also.

Lydia,

Thank you for your posts on John Haupt. I was so shocked when I saw that he had passed away.  John and I were in government class together and became good buddies.  When we graduated we went our separate ways.  After a few years passed we met up again and went out on a few dates.  We had a great time but saw us as just great friends.  I miss him dearly and I am so grateful for your posts and pictures.
