Sharmon Ann Youngblood (1971)

The Castrow's lived across the street from me on Havershire in the late 60s/early 70s. Dr. Castrow was my dermatologist, and our families became very good friends. I know that my father respected and admired Dr. Castrow very much. I babysat once or twice for Fred Jr. and Jim and their baby sister Sharon (who always slept, thankfully). Very cute little boys but full of the dickens and I'm afraid more than my limited babysitting skills could handle. I believe I swatted at one of them once as they raced around the den. Don't know which one...they were very close in age, but I think they told on me, as I was never asked to babysit again. I feel ashamed for having resorted to violence. I must have been a sophmore at Westchester, an only child, and apparently lacked authority. I did not know Jim as an adult, but watched him grow until my family moved away in 1974(?). I know that Dr. Castrow took Jim's death very hard, as he refused to talk about it with me. Being a parent myself I can only imagine the grief...never ending. My heart goes out to the Castrow family, and I pray that Dr. Castrow finds peace.

An old family friend,

Sharmon Youngblood '71
