In Memory

James Reed Jordan - Class Of 1975

 James Reed Jordan

May 7, 1957 - December 17, 2013

James Reed Jordan was born on the 7th of May 1957 in Wilmington, DE, the son of Mary Ellen and James McCrea Jordan and passed away on December 17, 2013 after a valiant five-month battle with leukemia. He was a loving husband, father, son and brother.

Reed is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Elizabeth Hughes Jordan, his daughters Melissa, Jennifer and Amy Jordan, all of Houston. He is also survived by his mother, Mary Ellen Jordan, brother Jeffrey Jordan, and sister Lynn Jordan Horton and her husband John. Additionally, Reed is survived by a large group of loving in-laws, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Jordan.

Reed spent his early childhood in Kansas City, Kansas until Gulf Oil brought his family to Houston in 1967. They established firm roots in the Wilchester subdivision and he and his family have remained in the area. He attended Rummel Creek Elementary, Spring Forest Junior High and graduated from Westchester High School. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration from The University of Texas in 1979. It was during his "victory lap" that he met his wife, Elizabeth. Reed started his career at Peat Marwick Mitchell (KPMG) before establishing his own CPA firm, J. Reed Jordan, PC in 1993.

Reed worked tirelessly for his clients and considered them his friends. Reed would say that his biggest accomplishment was loving and taking care of the women in his life. He's the guy who took care of things. He took care of his family very well through his love, devotion, service and faith. He was the ultimate "girl dad" and his daughters' faces lit up when he walked into the room. They played well together and never took anything too seriously. Reed was the perfect husband. He gave wholeheartedly of himself throughout his marriage. He was a good friend. Reed's friendships meant the world to him. He was always happy to head out with his friends to play golf, tennis or ping pong, ride motorcycles or shoot bottle rockets. He loved family vacations, traveling with friends, going out to dinner, watching his daughters activities. When he was home you could find him taking care of his yard, skimming his pool or playing with his pup-dog.

Reed touched many people's lives and the family is grateful for the dear friends, neighbors, clients and community who lifted them up and prayed with them during this time. They are especially grateful to his sister, Lynn Horton, who was his stem cell donor and a perfect match. They are also grateful to the many doctors and nurses at MD Anderson who worked tirelessly with such love and compassion for Reed. They were an inspiration.

The Jordan family will be present to receive friends Friday, December 20, 2013 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a vigil service beginning at 7:00 PM at Dettling Funeral Home, 14094 Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77079. The Funeral Mass will commence Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 10:30 AM at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, Houston, TX 77079. A reception will follow the mass on the church grounds. Interment services will follow the reception at Memorial Oaks Cemetery via motorized cortege.

The family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Reed's name be directed to St. John Vianney Catholic Church or the Wintermann-Jordan Leukemia Research Fund, 1515 Holcombe Blvd., Unit 0428, Houston, TX 77030. Visitwww.DettlingFuneral.com to leave online tributes.
