Andrew "Andy" William Koebel

MARCH 15, 1955 – FEBRUARY 12, 2024

Andrew "Andy" Koebel of San Antonio, Texas passed away on February 12, 2024, at the age of 68. Andy was born on March 15, 1955, and was adopted by Martha Jean and Fred Koebel with the help of the Gladney Center for Adoption in Ft. Worth, Texas.

Andy grew up in both Houston and San Antonio and graduated from Westchester High School in Houston. He attended Southwest Texas State University and became a very proud member of the Phi Kappa Tau Psi fraternity. Andy remained active in his fraternity and was over the top with joy when his grandson Lucas pledged to join the same fraternity in January 2024.

After graduating from college Andy returned to Houston where he coached High School football for several years and then he moved to San Antonio and joined Kunz Construction. He took great pride in his career as a general contractor and enjoyed working with his father-in-law Harold (Bubba) Kunz and brother-in-law, Mike Cooney. His love for this work could be seen in the projects that he did, and he was well respected in the industry. Andy was most proud of the work he did on Hemisphere Park in 1985, San Pedro Springs Park Rehabilitation in 2001 and the redevelopment of Main Plaza in 2008.

Andy loved his family and took pride in his grandson. He loved spending time with his grandson Lucas, coaching him in football and supporting his many other athletic endeavors. The two had the opportunity to enjoy hunting, fishing, and cooking together over Andy’s smoker. Andy was very devoted to his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with all of them. Additionally, Andy was a big music fan and enjoyed attending concerts near and far. If you could say, name that tune in three notes or less, well Andy was the man!

Andy is preceded in death by his parents Frederick "Fred" Eberle Koebel and Martha Jean Gordon.

He is survived by his wife April Smith-Koebel, daughter Leticia Williams (husband - Jay), grandson Lucas Williamson, sister Melanie Polasek WHS 1977 - (husband - Ken), nephew Brandon Howard and niece Emily Howard.

Donations can be made to Gladney Center for Adoption in memory of Andrew Koebel.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Woodland Church at 15315 Huebner Road, San Antonio, Texas on Monday February 19, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. Guests are invited to a reception following the service at April and Andy’s home.
