Max Devone Rizley, Jr.

July 3, 1956 - November 29, 2001

 

MAX D. RIZLEY, JR., 45 of Galveston, formerly of Houston died Wednesday, November 28, 2001, at Methodist Hospital. Max was born in Washington, D.C. on July 3, 1956 to Max D. Rizley and Betty Jane Owen Rizley. He graduated from Westchester High School and The University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Journalism. Max worked for the Galveston Daily News, The Islander as an Editor and he was a columnist for the Texas City Sun.

He was a member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church. His survivors include his parents, Max and Betty Rizley of Houston; a brother, Rev. Martin Owen Rizley and his wife Paola of Alcazar De San Juan, Spain; and his aunts and uncles, William E. Owen of Corpus Christi, Texas, Jason and Doris Owen Fresno, Texas, Hortense Barrere of Van Nuys, California, Robert Rizley of Tulsa, Oklahoma, LaMoyne Cox of Naples, Florida and Jerry Rizley of Woodward, Oklahoma.

Friends can call at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway at Eldridge, on Saturday, December 2, 2001 from 10:00 A.M to 6:00 P.M. and Sunday, December 2, 2001 from 9:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, December 2, 2001 at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Drive, with the Rev. Dr. H. Eugene Cragg and Rev. John King officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.

In lieu of usual floral remembrances, the family request that memorial contributions be sent to the Eugene Cragg Caring Forever Fund, c/o Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77079, or Texas Seaport Museum, Galveston, Texas. Home of the Tall Ship "Elissa".

Max died from complications following an outpatient surgery related to his kidney disease.

Pamela Jayne Walker (Marsden) (1974)

Max was a kind and friendly person. I enjoyed our chat at the '74 Reunion. I think he was working at The Galveston Daily News then. I'm glad he got to be a Reporter/Writer!  cool He will be missed.
