Gregory Dean Propps (1974)

I knew Sam, but didn't hang out with him too much.

Lunch Room, Laps on the Track, Keg Parties; that sort of thing.

After we graduated he went to work on an Offshore Platform of some kind; either a drilling rig or a production platform.

There was an "incident" on the platform. I can't remember the details.

They had to launch the Escape Pods to evacuate the crew.

A second tragedy came when one of the Pods flipped over and filled with water and sank.

Most Hands on-board went down with the Pod.

A couple were back-washed out of the door as the Pod went down.

Sam was one of the ones spit back out into the open sea.

I caught up with Sam one night not long after it happened.

He told me about the experience and how terrifying it all was.

I think maybe there was some "Survivor's Guilt", too.

He wasn't the same guy as before.

This announcement is the next thing I've heard of him.

I hope he had a good life.

Rest In Peace, Sam
