Elizabeth Ann Bighouse Geiger

June 18, 1953 - October 20, 2008

 

ELIZABETH ANN BIGHOUSE "BETH" GEIGER went to join our Lord on Monday, October 20, 2008. She was born to Robert and Jane Bighouse on June 18, 1953 in Columbus, Ohio.

She is survived by two daughters, Erin Coym, and her husband Robert; Heather Clesi, and her husband James; parents Robert and Jane Bighouse; sisters Joannie Burleson, and her husband Sidney; Julie Bighouse, and her partner Linda; brothers Bob Bighouse and William Bighouse, as well as many nieces and nephews, and her friend and long-time attendant Jacquline Mitchell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Max Geiger and her brother, James Bighouse.  Max died in 1989 at the age of 37.  He is buried at Houston National Cemetery.  James passed away on January 14, 1978.

Beth will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul, who despite her illness, had the most gracious smile. She graduated from UTSA with a degree in Education, December 1977. She spent several years working as a Special Education Teacher of children with profound needs and disabilities until she left to devote herself to being a full time mother to her girls. She was diagnosed with Primary Lateral Sclerosis, a form of Lou Gehrig's disease, in 1989. She lived and fought valiantly with PLS until her passing after a brief hospitalization.

The family will receive friends from 5pm until 8pm Thursday, October 23, at Waltrip Funeral Directors where the Rosary will be recited at 7p.m. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11am Friday, October 24, 2008, at St Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 10688 Shadow Wood. Interment will be at a later date. Donations are requested in lieu of flowers. Please send donations to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) 5615 Kirby Dr, Suite 500, Houston, TX 77005. Please designate the donation go to the ALS Foundation in memory of Beth Geiger.
