Rebecca Lynn "Becky" Battle Downs

November 2, 1953 - June 23, 2005

 

REBECCA BATTLE DOWNS, 51, passed away on June 23, 2005. Becky will always be remembered as a loving wife and devoted mother, who gave selflessly to all. She was known as a generous, gracious, and dignified woman who had a quiet strength and an optimistic outlook. A native Houstonian, Becky was born November2, 1953. A 1971 graduate of Westchester High School, Becky entered Southern Methodist University and received a Bachelor's Degree in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy in 1975.

She married Michael Downs on July, 1979. An accomplished musician, Becky taught piano for over 30 years, and it was her joy to share her musical talents with others. She was a member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her parents, Jackson Leroy Battle and Peggy Ray Battle, her husband of 25 years, Michael Downs, and her sons, Jason Michael Downs and Kevin Russell Downs, her brother Jackson Leroy Battle, Jr., along with his wife, Renee' McKeown Battle, as well as brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

A memorial service celebrating Becky's life will be held at 2:00 P.M., at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77079.

Brenda Spurlock (Edmonds Arnold) (1971)

Becky was one of the most gracious ladies and sweetest friends I've ever known.  Although our WHS days were great fun, it was a wonderful privilege getting to know Becky even better in the years we worked together downtown after college.   Such a tremendous loss but heaven's gain.....
