John Clayton Jewett passed away in his sleep on Sunday, January 20, 2013 in his home in Austin, Texas.
Born in Los Angeles, California on September 7, 1962, John spent his early years living on the East Coast and in London with his father Robert "Bob" Jewett, a longtime executive of Shell Oil, his mother Patricia "Pat" Jewett and sister Mary Ellen Jewett. John attended Westchester High School and college at Southwest Texas State University. John was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity throughout his academic career, and served as Vice President.
John married his college sweetheart Lisa Drury in a December 30th ceremony in 1988 and they settled in Austin and later Round Rock to raise their two daughters, Elizabeth and Patricia. John was a fixture in Austin's bar and restaurant scene, as employee and manager of local establishments such as Maggie Mae's and owner of Babe's Restaurant on Sixth Street. John also worked for corporate hospitality such as Applebee's International and Brinker International throughout his career. Most recently John provided consulting services with Carlos 'n Charlie's Restaurant on Lake Travis.
John was preceded in death by his parents Pat Jewett in 1993 and Bob Jewett in 2009, and his wife, Lisa Jewett in 2006. He is survived by his sister Mary Ellen Stafford and her children of Independence, Kansas, and his daughters Elizabeth Margaret, age 20, and Patricia Grace, age 15, of Austin, Texas.
The family will receive guests at an open house this Saturday, January 26th from 2:00pm until 5:00pm at their Austin home, and a private memorial service will take place in the coming months in Florida. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Jewett Family Memorial Fund at Chase Bank.
