Picture of

DENISE RIBELLES 11/25/1960 to 6/13/2002 June 13, 2002, Denise Ribelles shed the bonds of suffering after courageously battling diabetes and its complications for most of her short but precious life.

When she passed away at the age of 41, she left an empty spot in this world and an aching hole in our hearts - both of which can never be filled. Through her suffering, she taught us compassion. Through her devotion to harmony, she brought us all closer together. Through her courage in the face of adversity, she taught us the true nature of perseverance. Through her unconditional love, she taught us acceptance. Despite our deep sorrow, it's God's turn to reclaim this treasure as his own.

"Neecy" was born on November 25, 1960 in Houston, Texas. She attended Westchester High School, University of Houston, and East Texas University, where she studied graphic design. Her talent for design rivaled some of the best. She had her own graphic design company until her sight became too poor to continue. After that, she bravely endured repeated hospitalizations and other setbacks. While a patient in Memorial Hermann Rehabilitation Hospital, she met her fiancée, Reverend Scott Medlin. From that point forward, her life began to have more meaning and joy through the love they gave each other. Just before her death, she and Scott took a long and well-deserved vacation throughout the Southeast, visiting relatives and seeing the sights.

At the end, she was tired, but happy. Meeting her at the gates of God: her dearest friend, Mr. Lonnie McAnnally, her maternal grandparents, Regis and Grant Terrill, her paternal grandparents, Rita Barraquer de Ribelles and Jose Maria Ribelles, as well as other dear family.

She is survived by her fiancée, Scott Medlin, her parents, Jose and Jacqueline Ribelles, her sisters, Teri Hannigan, Dr. Elisa Ribelles Medhus (WHS 1973)and Laura White, her nieces and nephews, Fiona Hannigan, Kristina Medhus, Michelle Medhus, Erik Medhus, Lukas Medhus, and Annika Medhus, and her brothers-in-law, Denis Hannigan, Jim White and Rune Medhus as well as many wonderful friends who made a difficult life brighter.

Friends are invited to visitation with the family from 4:00 P. M. to 6:00 P. M. Sunday, June 16, 2002, at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway at Eldridge. Memorial Services will be conducted at 11:30 A. M. Monday, June 17, 2002, in the Chapel of Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Feel free to join is after the services at her sister Elisa's house for food and drink: 4 Buckingham Court, Houston, Texas 77024, 713-461-6912. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the charity of your choice.

"Denise, we all miss and love you dearly."
